From Pastor Peter 27-Sep-2013

Dear Grace Family,

"Connect" THIS SUNDAY

Is GFC Newport still new to you?  Consider joining us at "Connect,"  an informal, low-key gathering where we can meet each other, and for you to interact with other folks just like you, as well as meet some other members of our church family.  We'll eat lunch together, chat, and tell you a little about what God is doing among us.  Wanna come?  Click HERE to let us know how many to expect, and join us after church in the Levee's Community Room (directly across from Gameworks).  Hope to see you there!

Save the Date: Baptism Class NEXT SUN, 06-Oct

Have you been publicly baptized since you came to faith in Christ?  If not, consider taking this important step of faith and obedience to the Scriptures in celebrating your new life in Christ.  Just not sure?  Got questions?  Wanna learn more?  You commit to nothing by just coming to the class, so come to listen and learn.  Save the date: NEXT SUNDAY (06-OCT) at 9:00am in the Levee's Community Room (directly across from Gameworks).  If you already know you'll be joining us, click HERE so we can get an idea of how many to expect.

What's the Real Purpose of Marriage?

Hope you were as stirred as I was from the kickoff sermon to our new series last Sunday!  I look forward to continuing to learn what God says about our gender, sexuality, marriage and more as we continue in our new sermon series, Holy Sex.

This Sunday we’ll dig into God’s Word and try to get at the very heart of what marriage is all about, and why God gave it to us.  You might be surprised at what we find!  To get ready for Sunday – read Genesis 2:18-25 and Ephesians5:22-33.

See you at church!

Love in Christ,

Pastor Peter

Dear Grace Family,

From the Elders

We've got a new spin on Forums.  Read all about it HERE.

New Series starts THIS SUNDAY!

I know, I know...just when you were getting into Romans, we switch it up on you.  I feel ya.  Still, I think it's a good thing for a few reasons, not the least of which is how much we'll look forward to getting back into Romans in 2014.  In the meantime, click HERE to learn why I'm personally looking forward to these sermons, and start praying for the time we'll spend in the Word during the "Holy Sex" series.

"Connect" - Sun, 29-Sep

New to our church?  We have just the thing for you, and it includes free lunch!  Click HERE to learn more about "Connect."  If you know you'll be there, be a dear and RSVP while it's fresh on your mind.  That'll help us plan accordingly when we order food.  Thanks much!

Small Groups are underway!

Our Small Groups kicked off this week in and around Newport, in addition to the 50+ other Small Groups associated with our church.  Very exciting!  It's never too late to join one.  Click HERE to meet our Small Group leaders.

Giving

Thank you so much for your regular and sacrificial support of GFC with your money.  These are tough economic times, so we’re grateful for every dollar you give, and we work hard to invest it wisely.  This year we’re behind budget by about $220,000.  If you’re new to our church family and haven’t started giving, would you consider joining the hundreds of others of us by investing your money into what God is doing in and through our church?  Or if you’ve given in the past but have slacked off, please join us again in funding all that God has called us to do in this next decade.  We could never do it without people like you faithfully & sacrificially investing your money.  To make your giving easy and automatic, click HERE to set up an Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT).

See you on Sunday,

Pastor Peter

Come to "Connect"!

Perhaps Grace Fellowship Church is entirely new to you, and our Newport Campus is pretty much your first exposure to Grace.

Well...then this is for you.  {;-)

We're calling it "Connect."  Right after church on Sunday, September 29th, head downstairs to the Community Room in the Newport on the Levee Building (it's on the Riverwalk Level - same level as the AMC ticket booth - opposite Gameworks).  You'll get to meet Pastor Peter, some other ministry leaders, and mingle with other newbies like you.  We'll even feed you lunch...fo' free (can't beat that).

It's never too late to let us know you're coming, so click here to RSVP and that will help us get a general headcount.

Got questions?  Email MeganFaulkner@graceky.org, or call 859.371.7880.

Hope to see you there!

Matt & Krissy Richard
What movie do you love enough to watch again and again? Matt and I will never agree on this one. He could watch What About Bob everyday but I can't stand it. I love The Blind Side.
What do you love most about Small Group? Getting to see people's lives change through sanctification.
What is a verse that has been encouraging you lately?
Psalm 73:25-26: "Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon the earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
Psalm 103:1-5: "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. " No matter where we are or what we are going through God is the same. HE is our portion forever. HE provides all we need. HE is worthy to be praised!

David & Megan Gautraud
What movie do you love enough to watch again and again? There isn't a particular favorite, but the one we reference the most, especially in small group, is Top Gun.
What do you love most about small group? It is comforting to know that we aren't alone in our struggles--that we can come as we are and share our lives together.

Joshua 1:9 -- this life can be down right hard and this verse is encouraging that God is with us no matter what.

What do you love most about small group? We love getting to know people on a deeper level and being challenged by them and God's Word.
What is a verse that has been encouraging you lately? Lately I have been reading through II Corinthians. Chapter 1 v.3-4 reminds us how God comforts those close to us and how we can in turn comfort others. We are looking forward to the start of our Small Group year!

What movie do you love enough to watch again and again? The Blind Side
What do you love most about small group? We love that our small group feels like family. We share in the good and bad times together.
What is a verse that has been encouraging you lately? James 1:19-20: "My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for a man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires." Having patience with our young daughters and not talking over them is a struggle for both of us.

What is a verse that has been encouraging you lately? Heb. 10:24,25 - Having looked at it afresh for my recent sermon, we've been thinking about what it really means to truly "consider one another" and to "stir up" love & good works in each other.

Zach & Kelly Lux

What do you love most about small group? We love the front row seat that God gives us to watch others and ourselves grow to be more like Him.
What is a verse that has been encouraging you lately? I keep going back to Ephesians 1:11-14 and resting my thoughts on the inheritance we have in Christ.

New Series: Why press "pause" on Romans?

I've really been enjoying our time in Romans and would not have wanted to take a break from it if it weren't for the particular sermon series we're about to start entitled Holy Sex: Sexual Purity in a World Gone Mad.

You don't have to be a sociologist to look around and see the moral degradation of the world in which we live, and how sexual sin is so often at the very core.  The Pornography industry is a $13 billion (yes - with a "b" - billion) business in the United States alone.  Cohabitation and fornication happens more often than not.  Homosexuality is lauded.  Children are abused.  Sex slaves are real.  Some marriages are sexLESS, and others have their very foundations rocked by adultery one or both spouses.

Our world really has gone mad.

More than just calling sin what it is and talking about how terrible the world is, we'll seek to point you to hope, help and answers in God's holy, unchanging Word.  We won't be pointing the finger at everyone else "out there."  Instead, our time will be spent answering the question of how we can honor God in our sexuality with the one and only life He's given us on earth.

Young or old - single or married - male or female - homosexual or heterosexual - veteran Christian or just checking it all out - this series is for you.

Series starts this Sun, 22-Sep, 10:30 AM.

[REVISED] From Pastor Peter 13-Sep-2013

(This is a revised version of an earlier post. Please see highlighted revisions below.)

Dear Grace Family,

This Sunday: Small Groups!

Most families have traditions of some sort, and our church family is no different!  Every September, we kick off our Small Group ministry season by dedicating a sermon and a Sunday to the topic of Small Groups.

Just about every Sunday at GFC, Small Groups are mentioned and you are encouraged to plug into one.  I think it's important for you to realize that this isn't just our "thing" at GFC.  This isn't just something we're really into just because...well...that's just what we do.  We're passionate about Small Groups because of what we see in God's Word, and that's what I hope to highlight for you as we look at a variety of Scriptures to build a solid foundation as to why Small Groups truly are the heartbeat of our church.

Not in a Small Group?  This sermon is for you.

Already in a Small Group?  This sermon is also for us, as I'll seek to present application points to us as we look forward to our time Small Groups once again this year.  I look forward to our time together this Sunday.

Save the Date!  Sun, 29-Sep - "Connect"

New to our church family?  This is for you.  A casual, informal opportunity to interact with other newbies, some key church leaders, and hear about what God is doing among us.  And, we'll give you a free lunch, too!  It all takes place after church on Sun, 29-Sep, in the Community Center just downstairs from the movie theater.  Save the date now and click HERE to sign up so (we know how many to plan for).  Hope to see you there!

Baptism, G4U and more

I'm thankful to God that although GFC Newport is still "new," it's not as new as it once was (stunning logic, I know).  We have our hiccups and bumps in the road, but SO many things run SO much smoother now than they did back when we launched.  Since God has brought us this far, I'm actively looking to take us to the next level, and add-on things to our church that we've not yet done before, such as "Grace For You" (G4U), baptism classes and more.  Pray for me as I work out these details, and I'll be sure to let you know how you can help, pray more specifically, and will let you know what the Lord brings about for us as we move ahead.  I'm excited to see how it all works out!

From the Elders

Click HERE for a note from us about our upcoming Elders' Meeting.  Please pray for us!

Thanks for being a part of GFC Newport, friends.  I can't wait to be back with you on Sunday.

Love in Christ

Dear Grace Family,

How dead is dead?

It’s been great to spend the time we have in Romans thus far!  This Sunday we’ll drill down a little more into what it really means when Paul says that we’ve ‘died to sin’ and been made ‘alive to God.’  This will be the final message this year as we hit ‘pause’ and step aside and do a sexual purity series.  Fear not!  We will pick Romans up again in 2014, but with all the confusion in our culture regarding marriage, homosexuality, and rampant immorality, it's wise and prudent for our church family to know what God says about our sexuality.  The series entitled “Holy Sex – Sexual Purity in a World Gone Madstarts on Sun, 22-Sep.

Small Group Sunday

We'll be officially kicking off our Small Groups next Sun, 15-Sep.  Every year we dedicate a sermon in the Fall to Small Groups.  I'll be preaching that sermon this year, which is why I won't be with you this week since I'm preaching it at our Florence campus.  I look forward to worshiping with you and preaching next  Sun, 22-Sep  weekend.

From the Elders

Check out the Elders' latest post as we ask you to think a bit outside the box with us concerning Church Business Meetings.  This post represents a change we're thinking of making specifically with GFC Newport and future campuses in mind.  Click HERE to read all about it, and let us know what you think!

Thank you

Sarah & Silas have been at home sweet home since late Sunday night.  Would you believe it if I told you we had Christian music playing during the c-section?  I'm not kidding.  Sarah had a c-section with Matt Redman's "10,000 Reasons"Matt Maher's "Lord, I Need You" and other worship songs playing on a radio as Silas made his entrance into the world.  I'm misty-eyed as I think back upon the many evidences of God's grace in our lives, particularly in the events surrounding Silas' birth.  There's so much more I could tell hyou.  For now, I just want to thank you for praying for us, encouraging us, and celebrating Silas' birth with us.  We are overwhelmed by the love you show us and how God uses you in our lives.  May God grant us growth in Christ and long-lasting, fruitful ministry together to the praise of the glory of His grace.

And, of course, here are some more pics... {:-D

Love in Christ,

Pastor Peter
