From Pastor Peter 29-Aug-2014

Dear Grace Family,

This Sunday: Testimony Service!
A few times each year, we dedicate an entire service to hearing testimonies of God moving in the lives of His people.  This Sunday is one such day!  Come prepared to have your heart stirred afresh by hearing brief stories of what God has been doing in the lives of His people.  What about you?  Is there something you can share with us that will bring glory to God and bless us, too?  Think about it.  Pray about it.  Come ready to bless and be blessed by the testimonies of God's grace poured out among His people.

No Worries re: Labor Day Parking
If this is your first Labor Day Sunday with us, you may wonder if things are crazy for us this weekend each year.  Nope.  Parking on Sunday morning remains largely unaffected by the Labor Day festivities along the river.  Parking rates in the Levee garage are $3 like any other week (rates won't increase 'til well after our services are done for the day).  Just thought I'd let you know. :)

Enjoy the long weekend.  See you Sunday!

Love in Christ,

Pastor Peter.

Dear Grace Family,

Brad Bigney: He's baaaaaaaack!
Pastor Brad was back in the office for Staff Meeting on Monday.  God used his time on Sabbatical to rest & refresh him, as well as give him fresh insight as he continues to cast vision and preach the Word for us on Sunday mornings.  No guest speakers this Sunday.  Brad will be preaching the final message in our summer sermon series.  Hope you're as excited as I am!

Small Group Gathering & Games TOMORROW!
Glad that several from my Small Group will be joining me and others at Pioneer Park for some hangout time and fun games.  Not sure what I'm talking about?  Click HERE for details and join us anytime on tomorrow from 3p-8p.

Taste of Grace - after church this Sunday
Know someone who is new to the GFC Newport family?  This free lunch and casual hangout is just for them.  Make sure they know about it, or join them after church for some lunch, a chance to meet some ministry leaders, and to get a brief taste of what God is doing among us at our church.  Details are HERE.

See you soon!

God bless,

Pastor Peter

Dear Grace Family,

Small Group Fun!
Did you catch the reminder earlier this week in our Ministry News email?  We're getting ready for some end-of-summer fun at the first ever Small Group Gathering & Games next Sat, 23-Aug.  Read details HERE, including some words from our very own Dick Gautraud as to why it's on his heart to organize this event.  Still plenty of room for folks to enjoy, so consider registering while it's fresh on your mind.  I just did!

St. Mark's Lutheran Church (8th & Monroe)...still exploring
A good chunk of my week has been spent in different meetings with the building owners, city officials, and others with regards to this site as a possible home for our church.  A top priority of ours is to assess the work that would need to be put into the parts of the building that are in disrepair so it might suit our needs.  We'll know more once we hear back from inspectors, assessors, and other such folks, so keep praying the Lord will give us wisdom as we continue to see if this is what He has in store for us as our new church home, or if there's another place He'd rather us hold out for.

Celebrity Sighting Yesterday!
I'm sitting at a lunch meeting in Cincinnati yesterday.  While talking to the guy I was meeting with, I see his jaw drop and his eyes shift over my shoulder as someone came into view.  I turn around to see who or what he's looking at, and there he was.

He was smiling.
He was rested.
He was very tan.
He was still bald.

It was Brad Bigney.  (Gasp!)

Seriously, you guys.  It was just like this:

Breathe, people.  Rumor has it he's had a great time away on his Sabbatical and will be back in the pulpit next Sun, 24-Aug.

In the meantime, this Sunday we'll get to hear from our final guest speaker of the Summer, Dr. Jim Hamilton from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He'll be preaching a message entitled "The Church and Politics."  Pray for our time together.

See you on Sunday,

Pastor Peter

Dear Grace Family,

Great First Impressions of St. Mark Lutheran on 8th & Monroe
First of all, thank you so VERY much for praying for my walk-through of the old St. Mark Lutheran Church on 8th & Monroe in Newport.  I've been through twice, and I think it shows lots of promise.  Here's a brief recap of what the story is.

The church was built in 1897 and has held worship services there up until three weeks ago.  For quite some time, the congregation has been in decline and only recently decided to stop meeting on Sundays since what little operating costs they had were more than they were taking in.

With all the development going on in and around Newport these days, it's their heartfelt desire to see the building continue to be used by a church, so we were very happy to meet each other this past week.  It seems our church and theirs may be a mutual answer to prayers we've both been praying apart from each other as we've longed for a church home in Newport, and they've longed for someone to take over their church building who will use it as a place of worship.  It was so encouraging!

Best of all, this is the first building we've seriously considered that is already properly zoned for our use according to the planning & zoning laws the City of Newport has laid out.  To not have to go through the process of applying for variances and all that jazz would be a big win.

What's next? Well, I meet with them again on Monday afternoon for us to continue to get to know one another, ask each other some clarifying questions, and continue to move ahead.  In my opinion, this is the most promising facility find we've experienced since we came across the movie theater almost two years ago to the day!  Let's see what God has in store for us, confidently trusting He always gives us what is best for His glory and our good.

Last Call for Tickets to Reds Game THIS SUNDAY!

I'm looking forward to watching the Reds beat the Marlins after church this Sunday!  Join us for what will be a good time together at Great American Ballpark right after church.  This Sunday is "Faith Day" at the ballpark, which means there will be a MercyMe concert immediately following the game, if you want to stick around.  At this time, tickets are still available, and at a great rate of only $8 each.  Click HERE to have yours reserved and you can pick them up after church on Sunday.

Sermon This Sunday: "The Church and Its Ultimate Mission"

Todd Richmond, our Dir. of Missions, will be preaching this Sunday.  Pray for him as God calls him to mind this weekend, and pray God would use our time together to focus us on what God has called us to do and be as members of the body of Christ.

See you on Sunday!

God bless,

Pastor Peter

Dear Grace Family,

Sermon This Sunday

This Sunday, we'll get to hear from Mark Whitacre as he preaches a sermon entitled "The Church and the Almighty Dollar."  Mark has had very interesting experiences in his life, which prove to be a great illustration of God's redemptive love & grace.  Read more about Mark HERE and pray for him and us as we open God's Word together on Sunday.

That's all folks!  Hope you have a blessed weekend.

Love In Christ,

Pastor Peter
